Seasonal Wisdom in Ayurveda

Ayurveda teaches that true health comes from living in harmony with nature. As the seasons change, so do the elements within and around us. By aligning our routines, diet, and lifestyle with these natural rhythms, we build resilience and balance. Simple practices, like observing seasonal shifts in our body and mind, making gentle dietary changes, and undergoing periodic cleansing such as Panchakarma, help us stay attuned to nature’s cycles. Through this alignment, we honour Kala (time), a key Ayurvedic concept, and foster lasting well-being.

Ashwagandha

Ashwagandha, one of Ayurveda’s most revered herbs, gets its name from its unique horselike scent (Sanskrit: aswa = horse, gandha = smell). This remarkable herb has been documented in classical texts like the Bhavaprakasha Samhita by the sage Bhavamishra, who describes it as having a bitter, astringent taste and powerful rejuvenating properties.

Celebrated in classical texts and backed by modern science, it supports stress relief, sleep, immunity, and vitality. From enhancing muscle recovery to balancing hormones and sharpening cognition, Ashwagandha offers wide-ranging benefits. However, its use is most effective when guided by an expert, in keeping with Ayurveda’s holistic principle, healing the whole person, not just the symptoms.

Faculty: Dr A R Ramadas & Dr Omprakash.
Days : Every Tuesday, 7.30 PM IST to 9.00 PM (Recording is available)

Modern medicine defines the endocrine system as a network of glands that produce and release hormones that regulate many important bodily functions, such as metabolism, growth, reproduction and homeostasis.

Ancient Ayurveda does not have an anatomical designation that directly corresponds to the modern endocrine system. However Ayurveda offers a holistic, coherent approach to understanding and managing systemic health through the lens of the tridosha (vata, pitta, kapha), agni (the digestive fire), āma (waste matter), chakras (energy centers) and ojas (vital energy & immunity).

In this course, many common endocrine disorders including diabetes, hypothyroidism, adrenal fatigue, PCOS (polycystic ovary syndrome) and more are explored.

Sudarshanam Summer Camp 2025: A Joyful Journey of Learning and Discovery

From May 22 to 28, 2025, Balagrama was filled with the laughter, curiosity, and enthusiasm of 36 bright children who came together for the Sudarshanam Summer Camp. Designed as an immersive exploration into India’s traditional knowledge systems, the camp offered an enriching blend of Ayurveda, Yoga, Indian culture, nature awareness, and creative expression.

Each day began with prayers and yoga, setting a rhythm of discipline and calm. Children learned Ayurvedic sutras, home remedies, and first aid, and engaged in Ramayana stories, folk songs, art and craft, and interactive quizzes on Indian history and values. Even rainy days brought joy—as the gardens rejoiced in the showers, the children remained engaged indoors with vibrant activities and the rare opportunity to witness the Sri Rudra Chandi Lokakshemam Maha Yajnam at Vaidyagrama.

A highlight was the “Path to Hitayu Sukhayu: Snakes & Ladders Odyssey”, a life-size board game created by Dr Mala Kapadia and conducted by Dr Omprakash G. This playful yet profound experience helped children internalize Ayurveda principles through a fun and memorable group activity.

As the week progressed, sessions in Dinacharya (daily routines), Warli and Mandala painting, and eco-awareness by organic farmer Shri Kandaswamy ji inspired the children to lead mindful, earth-conscious lives. The final day culminated in a vibrant closing ceremony, where the children showcased their learnings, received a special treat, and celebrated the spirit of Sudarshanam with joy and gratitude.

This summer camp truly offered what schools often miss—a grounding in Indian Knowledge Systems, tech-free days, stories that nourish the spirit, and values that stay for life.
